Patricia Urquiola was born in Oviedo, Spain, in 1961. After studying architecture and design in Madrid, she completed her education at the Politecnico di Milano under Achille Castiglioni, a master of Italian design who would deeply influence her design philosophy.

In 2001, she founded Studio Urquiola, where her projects – from micro to macro scale – combine a humanistic approach with technological and social awareness, seeking unexpected connections between the known and the yet to be explored.
